Tabulam is where the Bruxner Highway crosses the Clarence River, between Drake and Casino. Properties around the village take in river flats, grazing land and steeper timbered blocks back in the hills, and a lot of our work here is getting a block ready to build on: clearing, a pad cut to level, and a driveway that holds up in the wet.

On a sloping block we cut and fill to a workable level, compact the fill in layers and shape the batters so the pad stays put. The Komatsu PC130 and Caterpillar D3G work as a pair on bigger sites, with the dozer pushing out the pad and the excavator handling stumps, trenches and tidy-up. On lighter jobs the Yanmar ViO55 does the trenching for water and power and the drainage around the finished pad.

River flat country can stay soft for a long time after rain, so we plan access and timing around the ground, not just the calendar. On the clearing side, stick raking and flail mulching open up overgrown paddocks, fence lines and house sites without leaving piles of timber behind.

We also seal driveway entrances off the road with a council-approved bitumen seal, and offer wet plant hire for landholders who want a machine and operator for a day or two of their own work.
